I'm an archaeologist who works in the Mediterranean region, with a particular focus on the material culture of Greek and Roman antiquity. I am a Research Scientist at the American Numismatic Society and a Constulting Scholar in the Mediterranean Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology where I teach in the Graduate Group in the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World. I am also Vice President of Professional Responsibilities at the Archaeological Institute of America. See the ”publications” page for more on my professional activities. None of the content of this site should be taken to reflect the opinions of these institutions.
As far as education goes, I graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in Medieval Studies and have a Ph.D. in Classical Art and Archaeology from the University of Michigan.
This is a personal page with links to various projects/experiments that I'm currently working on. My latest concern is establishing computationally-actionable unique identities on the internet using Doman Name Identifiers (DNIDs). Read about it on the dnid-community blog and on the dnid-community website.
Neel Smith is also experimenting with DNIDs. His ancient Lycian language and archaeology course will work with ANS coins and make reference to them using DNIDs.
